More on Freelancing; Proudly introvert – alone with my code

For first time in my life, I can wake up and spend the whole day alone with my code. I love the stillness and quiet most. It’s in these quiet moments that I tend to think more and see the ideas float just in front of me. I know many of my friends who read this are going to say that I am always online hence I am not alone – true, I am always online but the other person online cannot  really affect my peace and quiet. I actually love being online too. This is because I am never lonely when I am online yet I don’t feel like being in a crowded place.

You see, I don’t like crowded places – by crowded I refer to both human traffic and non-human traffic. I prefer an empty church to a church that has many people even if all the people in it are quiet – I guess they emit energy and it’s that energy that makes me feel the place is indeed crowded even if they are as silent as a graveyard.

I recall when I was in school and I would prefer to wake up early and go to class so that I read before the rest of the students wake up – this was because I preferred and still prefer quiet places. Even when it came to praying, I would always go earlier to church so that I can have my time alone in a quiet environment. 

When the football matches from the European countries especially the Premier League started to be screened here, all video halls, local pubs and joints that had the chance to screen the matches got an influx of people. Having been a footballer from a young age (many people don’t believe I can even kick a ball), I was attracted to these pubs and joints. I always left early since I always felt something was lacking. By then I had no clue I was really an introvert. Even now many of you may not believe – considering that I like debating, arguing and spending time with friends. I am great with kids and you know kids are always making noise – but truth is that I am an introvert. I love spending time alone in a quiet and still place. 

Freelancing has enabled me to spend time working alone and most times I am working from my home. It’s been great; such bliss - so calm and peaceful. I occasionally step out to go offer training to clients, go for meetings or go to the bank or super market but otherwise I spend my days alone with my code. It’s now that I realize that all along, I am indeed an introvert – and I am proud of it.

 So when I looked at the pic  of Steve Jobs (co-founder of Apple), pic on your left, I  was able to appreciate his simplistic lifestyle – not sure if he is an introvert but one thing is for sure, I too like such empty rooms. For the few that have visited me, you now know why my apartment (refer to first pic above) has almost no furniture, no Television set, no radios, no record players, just me and my code for now.

 Not sure how long this bliss will last considering that my neighbors can decide to cause havoc with their state of the art sound systems but so far the bliss is great.
